1. Location. Location. Location. If your deck is on the smaller side, place your tub 12 inches from a house wall to allow for adequate room to lift up the cover and ensure air circulation. For larger decks, locate the tub about 17 inches from the wall to achieve the same effect as described for smaller decks.
2. Define your privacy policy. Based on the proximity to your neighbors, it may be necessary to add a privacy screen (see photos below), portico or pergola to keep things private.
3. Make it accessible. It’s a simple fact. The closer the spa is to a door leading into the house, the more it will be used. But first consider how you will use the spa. Will you use it mostly to entertain friends or for family including kids? Is it for unwinding? Whatever the main use, the location and design should reflect it.

Factors that impact the type of framing required include tub dimensions, dry weight, water capacity and suggested occupancy.
5. Check out your spa water fairly regularly. If you go a week or more without using your hot tub, take a field trip to your unit, lift the cover and have a look. Is the water at the set temperature? Does your control panel display any codes that require your attention? By taking these easy steps, your hot tub will be ready for you when you are ready for it.
